Securing a position as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is very competitive. There is an abundance of CNA’s throughout our country. Because of this, it is very important to develop a cover letter to the resume that will intrigue and catch the attention of the employer prior to even reviewing the resume. The CNA, in a sense, must sell himself in a few sentences.
Compassion is always a key quality for certified nursing assistants. If you have a special role model or personal reason for entering this profession, briefly explain this in your cover letter. For instance; if you were employed in long term care and developed a special friendship with a client that touched your heart, you should elaborate on that. Personalizing a cover letter increases your chances of getting noticed. Keep in mind that you are probably one of many applying for the same position. Keep your letter brief and focused to avoid sounding unprofessional or insincere. Let your potential employer know why you want the job and how you can help the facility. Also make sure not to go into too much details about your work experience because that will be covered in your resume, in the cover letter keep the experience part short and maybe like mentioned before put down an experience you’ve had with a patient.
Tips that may be of assistance include:
- Create a personal and unique cover letter for every job application.
- If you do not know who you are writing the letter to you should research the company a bit to get a name. Avoid using; “Dear Sir,” “To whom it may concern,” or “Gentlemen.” Make it personal.
- Explain your passion for the position. Be honest, and keep it short and sweet.
- Close your letter with style. Thank the company in advance for the opportunity and also reiterate your interest in the position.
Here is a quick example of a typical cover letter; this will give you a good idea of how to approach your killer cover letter.
