For those students who may be experiencing financial difficulties but still want to enter into the health care industry, free or discounted courses provide the opportunity to move forward and build a career.
Employer sponsored opportunities are a great way to get started since you not only get free training but you also secure a job during and after completing your course. An employer will hire you to work as one of their CNA’s and provide you with training directly if they are a state-approved training program or to send you to a program of their choice. On successful completion you are then required to work for that institute/ facility for a specified time period (usually between 6 – 12 months) depending on your contract with the employer.

Individuals can actually begin to work while they are learning what they need to know to become a nursing assistant. There is classroom time that is also required in the state to become a certified nursing assistant. This instruction is provided as part of the train while you earn program offered at Germantown Home.
Evergreen Nursing Center – 191 Evergreen Mill Road-Harmony, PA 16037
When the Evergreen Nursing Center has openings for nursing assistants, they will often pay individuals to become certified. The course includes two segments: Nursing Assistant Theory and Nursing Assistant Clinical. When a student is able to complete both portions with success, they will then be able to take the competency exam for nursing assistants.
Delaware County Community College – 901 S. Media Line Road-Media, PA 1906
DCCC is a participating WIA college within the state of Pennsylvania. As such, a nursing assistant certification course could be more in you reach if you are eligible for WIA benefits. The college offers a very extensive and comprehensive CNA training course. In fact, the course will include about 133 hours of instruction including book studies and the hand on clinical studies. Students will learn to provide care in both long-term and acute care settings. The Red Cross will test students who graduate from the DCCC nursing assistant program for certification as CNAs.
Community College of Beaver County – 1 Campus Drive-Monaca, PA 15061
This community college is part of the Workforce Programs. WIA recipients can receive potential help to pay for training courses including CNA training programs. The Community College of Beaver County has an NA certification training course that is worth 6 credits. This program takes one semester to complete in its entirety. This is considered to be a fast-track program providing students with comprehensive studies and knowledge. Students can apply to sit for the certification competency test if they pass the course.
